TEST DRIVE ※ 2

TEST DRIVE ※ 2

The spirit of the Green needs defenders but the game of fate it must play makes it so that its plans are like a garden, always in need of careful pruning. Only certain individuals are capable of living a life of adventure -- and even many who are capable may not be the heroes the Wilderlands needs.

The only way for the Green to be sure is by providing a test -- and as far as tests go, this one's a doozy, because the situation is real. There are countless conflicts all over the Wilderlands that are in need of intervention, so the Green tosses you head first into one of them with no warning or explanation. During it, you may perhaps run into others like yourself, thrown in over their heads -- or into others that came to the Wilderlands before you. Either way, your only chance of getting through it is to work together with whatever other unfortunates you find.

Welcome to the wilds, hero. Good luck with that whole 'deadly peril' thing.

MICKEY, YOU HAD ONE JOB!

A powerful Sorcerer left his apprentice in charge of his lair, but the apprentice has made a mess of things. He enchanted a broom and animated it to do some of his chores, like filling a basin with buckets of water. After the broom went out of control and overfilled the basin, he was forced to destroy it, but the shards only turned into more anthropomorphic brooms.

Now, hundreds of brooms are pouring water into the Sorcerer's lair, the Sorcerer's apprentice has run away (and magically locked the door, because he's a coward) and you're stuck in the middle of it all as the brooms keep pouring more and more water down the stairs into the Sorcerers' stronghold.

This room is filled with the requisite wizarding accouterments (like a stuffed alligator hanging from the ceiling) and most of it is just replaceable magical tchotchkes, but some of the books here are priceless and one of a kind. The Sorcerer is a force for good and his careless apprentice has made it so important ancient books may be destroyed before he returns, ones that could help turn the tide against evil in the Wilderlands.

The Green whispers to you that the brooms must be stopped and the books must be saved. The voices tell you that the magic in them is needed to save lives.

Also, you kinda need to not drown. Because the water's up to your knees and drowning's definitely a thing that might be happening if this keeps carrying on. The door is magically locked and the windows are magically warded so that while water can be poured out through them, people can't travel in or out of them. You're trapped.

Time to start bailing water and working together. Things are starting to look a little damp.

STUFF YOU CAN DO

A. FIGHT A HOUSEHOLD CLEANING IMPLEMENT
The brooms can probably be destroyed permanently! Maybe. Possibly.

It's worth a shot, right? Aside from the destructive magic you might find yourself now possessing (or superpowers or magic weapons...) The Sorcerer seems to have been doing some experimentation with gunpowder, among other things. The lair has firewood, flint and other firemaking supplies. Also axes and other tools.

The brooms can potentially reproduce from the shards if destroyed but if burned to ash or if the pieces are fine enough it may be possible to stop them once and for all. But if you fail, well, you may find your problem multiplying.
B. MESS WITH MAGIC
The Sorcerer has a lot of interesting-looking books on magic. Maybe you can find something useful within one of them that can stop the brooms and help make some of the water disappear?

Or you may just accidentally curse yourself. Good luck with that.

(OOC: All magic within the books can potentially help somewhat but only a little. Otherwise, characters can god any kind of curse effects they like for their character that occur from reading the books or trying to cast magic: legs turning to jelly, their voices turning squeaky, characters shrinking, characters growing in height, etc. etc. Feel free to get creative!)
C. BAIL A BUDDY OUT
Sometimes the best thing to do is push up your sleeves, grab a bucket, and get to work. While you can't climb out the warded windows, the water can be poured out of them and there are plenty of buckets to use to bail water. Grab a new friend and try to form a bucket brigade for a very work-intensive and awkward first introduction.
D. THE FLOOR IS LAVA
Well, not necessarily lava, but as the room starts filling with water, the floating furniture might be the only thing keeping you and the people around you alive. Help the people around you perch on furniture and stay afloat. Save the important books if you can, too, but you may want to make not drowning and preventing others from drowning a priority until the crisis is over.
G. FREESTYLE
The situation is pretty silly, with wild magic, gunpowder, anthropomorphic brooms, and flooding going on. Feel free to make something up! It's a big lair with a lot going on.

OOC INFO

This TDM is open to everyone. However, top-levels should be made for potential new characters only. Characters currently in the game should only tag top-levels.

Potential players may use test drive threads as their log samples. However, at least one post in their thread must fit the requirements for apps, both in length (200 words) and in quality. If you do plan on using a thread as a sample, please make sure the writing throughout your threads is a good example of your writing skills and has some solid examples of the character's voice.

Current players can count TDMs towards AC. They can only count towards comment-based AC proofs.

Potential players can opt to keep these threads as game canon when they app in, or start over fresh, based on preference. The magic bringing them to the game universe can fog their memories, if players don't want their character to remember TDM threads when introing into the game.

Apps open: 4/1/18

The game has limited slots. Please keep this in mind! We've had a lot of replurks in the announcement plurk, but the game is meant to be a very small game, with only 25 slots total, and many of these were already filled in the game's beta test round. There may be only around 10 or so open slots when apps open to everyone. The game will have a wait queue if the game hits cap during the app round but please be prepared for potential disappointment if we happen to hit cap you wind up not getting a player slot immediately. It's not personal; we'd love to accommodate everyone but the nature of the kind of campaign we're trying to run wouldn't work with a larger game.

WAVES BACK! SAME FANDOM!

This is not the time to have this conversation. Probably. Arturia is tired (she'd forgotten what that felt like), hungry, and in a bad mood all around. Having a human body instead of being a being of spiritual heroic energy is straight up bullshit as far as she is concerned right now. She glances towards Waver for a moment, trying to decipher what the boy is saying. It takes a moment for things to click but yes, that is a familiar face.

"...That was the Fourth Holy Grail War. The Fifth War just concluded." She's a little confused, but trying not to let it show. To help cover it up, Arturia kicks a broom away from her, scowling.

"You must be mistaken."

teratias: (04. Shoves at)

standard waver apology tho

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't be stupid, I understand how time works!" was the immediate response. Waver was running on pure outrage and well, not much else, which made all of his actions that much more...whatever the opposite of charming was.

Waver doesn't even pay attention to the brooms around him. All he knows that in flailing his arms around wildly, he accidentally smacks a broom and causes it to fall into a few others, sending them to the floor like dominoes.

"If the fifth war's over then you're sixty years ahead of me and there's True Magic at work! That's not hard to understand at all!"
invisibleheir: (STURIKU)

no apologies i love the boy

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"It hasn't been sixty years, it's been ten. The Fifth Holy Grail War took place in Fuyuki in the year two thousand and four." Arturia is really having this conversation with this magi. While they fight brooms. She gives up on Excalibur and moves to sheath the blade before simply reaching out to grab a broom and hurl it out into the mass of oncoming cleaning implements.

Okay that didn't help but it felt good.

"True Magic may be a possibility."
teratias: (13. External screaming)

i love sabes too so :DDD

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ten?!"

Waver's eyes went huge. It was ridiculous. Everything! Was! Ridiculous

"How the hell could it only be ten what happened?!"

Perhaps it was too much to ask Saber to be an oracle for him on the topic of the Grail War. At the moment, such a thought was the furthest thing from Waver's mind. He needed something to focus on, and this was at least something familiar to latch onto.
invisibleheir: (She'll stab u in the face)

she's so goooood.

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not entirely sure of the details as to why it happened again so quickly. I do know that technically my Master--" Masters? "--was victorious." Stopping the corrupted Grail and Avenger from manifesting counted as a win, right? Saber thinks it counts.

"Are you alright?" What a question to ask, Saber.
teratias: (11. Annoyed)

the best at everything except like...being a parent to mordred.

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Ugh."

Served him right for asking. Waver couldn't take the question back now, but the ending of the war also meant his response to Saber was decidedly one note.

"Yeah, just fine."
invisibleheir: (Not my problem)

Re: the best at everything except like...being a parent to mordred.

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"If it's any consolation, the end of the Fourth War wasn't exactly a triumph for me, either." Saber arches an eyebrow.

"This place is strange. There are no Masters or Servants as we're used to them."
teratias: (07. Grabbing a book)

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Waver opened his mouth to contest that fact, but stopped. Saber was right about that much, and he folded his arms across his chest, clearly annoyed but no longer able to articulate that feeling.

Vaguely, he realized his shoes were getting damp.

"...Then what kind of place is this, exactly?"
invisibleheir: (we'll do our best)

i just realized i missed my chance to reply with "who?"

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a place of magic, that much is clear. I'm still able to access some of my power, but unlike a normal Heroic Spirit, my body is flesh and bone. I need to sleep, eat, and rest. It's a unique experience after being dead for several hundred years." Arturia is remarkably cool about this sort of thing.

"...I've been using my true name but now that you're here I wonder if that was an advisable course of action."
teratias: (08. Study corner)

We'll pretend you did and SABER NO...DON'T...BE LIKE THAT...

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"You've incarnated."

It was a simple enough term, and one that once it left Waver's lips, caused something deep inside of him to curdle. Rider would be jealous, wouldn't he? That was his wish, after all! Incarnating so he could then conqueror the world himself.

Waver bit back a feeling of sickness that came with that thought. He was without the great oaf. "Look, if you've already done it, it's pointless to try and revert. Everyone will still know your true name and they could slip up."
invisibleheir: (Who is she?)

you did read her username right?

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly. It's not unpleasant, but my power seems to be limited in this form, which is frustrating at times." Arturia casually kicks a few brooms aside, delaying them marginally as they march onwards. She can feel water creeping into her shoes.

"In that case, I am Arturia Pendragon, the King of Knights." It's out of the bag, and he's right on that point. Others will be using the name she's given.
teratias: (09. Steal the artefact)

...it didn't click until just now and i am HOWLING

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You got my name as some point during the war, I think." Waver thought it must have been the case, right? He genuinely couldn't recall. Regardless, he felt something in his feet go squish and a grimace crossed his face.

"Can we maybe talk about the rest of what this place is and crap where it's slightly drier?"
invisibleheir: (She'll stab u in the face)

i can't take credit someone else came up with it for me

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Waver Velvet, if I recall correctly. But yes, perhaps we should seek higher ground." Arturia looks around for a moment, then moves off towards a higher section that looks like it's still dry.

"We should focus our efforts on trying to stop these brooms. Are you able to use your magical circuits?"
teratias: (13. External screaming)

it's still a thing of beauty.

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Waver only nodded at his name before Arturia started to move. He trailed after her, moving with a constantly squelching sound in his shoes. At the very least, it was a way for her to track exactly where he was, and if something unspeakably stupid had happened between where they were and high ground.

The question about magical circus was met with silence. With so much going on, Waver hadn't even tried. Why had he been that stupid?! Really?!

There was time for berating himself on that front later. Waver focused himself on his circuts, in opening them, in trying to get something, anything to work. There was nothing. A blockage. Something was wrong.

For once, his reaction was soft, rather than something loud and showy.

"Crap..."

The answer was no.
invisibleheir: (D:)

waver is lucky that arturia can't resist helping a damsel in distress

[personal profile] invisibleheir 2018-03-30 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Arturia is perhaps not the warmest person even under the best of circumstances, but that reaction is enough to tell her that something is seriously wrong. She steps towards him and lays a hand on Waver's shoulder (it helped that they were practically the same height).

"It's not working? Mine seem to be intact, but... they're not working entirely as they should. Something is going on here." She wants to ask if he's alright. Even if he was Arturia's adversary in the past they're in the same boat now. And for her that past is very past.

"Are you alright?"
Edited 2018-03-30 22:28 (UTC)
teratias: (13. External screaming)

too bad he doesn't have the damsel hair yet.

[personal profile] teratias 2018-03-30 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine!" Waver snapped, resuming well, his far more normal form of conduct. "Totally fine! There's True Magic working, I can't access my magecraft at all, Rider's not here, you've turned flesh, my feet are soaked through, and we're fighting a flood and a bunch of freaking brooms that reproduce like a hydra! I'm perfectly fine!"

He was back to gesturing widely as well, furious and beyond done with everything.

Speaking of brooms. There were several approaching, their buckets with them. They moved as orderly as Waver was disorderly.
